IZS Stream

We have created a comprehensive solution for streaming data from the scene of a crisis event. Today we can not only stream video but also other data such as sharing the location of the target.

Our solution consists mainly of a cross-platform application that facilitates and secures the distribution of data for the IZS (integrated rescue system) units.

It is primarily a low-latency video transmission. This can be transmitted from a terminal device such as a drone or a ground-based camera, using a backpack based on Teradek technology. This backpack can segment the video stream into four data streams and, depending on the current bandwidth, send them via four LTE modems from different operators to our server. The data streams are appropriately encrypted and individually unreadable. Thanks to the four modems, we can stream video even in areas with poor signal. The data streams are then merged on our server and distributed to a secure application. Depending on the network quality, the video will reach the end user with a delay of only 0.5 to 3 seconds.

Another useful feature is the sharing of positions marked by the drone. As such, our drone knows its position to the nearest centimeter. Moreover, it is equipped with a camera that can determine the distance and direction of the object.  After evaluating the data from the camera, the drone can thus also calculate the position of the target it is looking at relatively accurately. This is how, for example, we mark the locations of suspicious finds during the search for lost persons. These finds are sent to our app and the nearest patrol can easily check the find and mark whether it is, for example, a wanted person’s jacket or just rubbish. The commander of the intervention has the possibility to share the finds in different ways or to load the location of the find in another map viewer. This eliminates lengthy target guidance or worse, completely missing the find.

Map base IZS Stream

Another use is in the ranks of the HZS PK (Fire and Rescue Service of the Pilsen Region), where we mark the hot spots of fires and the commander of the intervention can quickly and efficiently direct his units to places where firefighting work is or will be needed.

To this element, the sharing of targeting positions, then belongs another application that runs in the background of the transmitters to these drones. This monitors what’s happening on the controller and in the case of a pilot’s or camera operator’s command, it reads the coordinates from the app’s preview and sends them directly to our server. From there, the IZS Stream app draws data to display on the map base.

You can send individual points or a single point that updates its position over time. We then use this point for tracking – for example, a march during a security measure.

Of course, the application allows you to view all points on the map in one window, displaying the current position of the operator – if a GPS device is available. Switching between points as well as changing their colors to make it easier to filter out scouted points or suspicious points.

However, very important for us is the administration option, which allows us to assign access to users or groups of users according to who is present at a given intervention. This allows us to use our application even during several parallel events without sharing information of individual interventions.

Currently, the application is widely used by the units of the Czech Police and is even a mandatory application equipment of the intervention tablets of the HZS PK and the JSDH PK (Voluntary Fire and Rescue Service of the Pilsen Region).

The application also provides other basic functions such as sending automatic update alerts and so on.

Drones in use

DJI Matrice 300 RTK

UAV designed mainly for the needs of the integrated rescue system. Carrying the DJI H20T and GL60 LED spotlight, we are able to monitor the required area for 45 minutes. The IP45 rating allows us to fly even in very harsh conditions for UAV operation. We can equip the DJI Matrice 300 with up to three payloads, but as standard we use "only" the DJI H20T and GL60.

Flyability ELIOS 1

The first version of the Elios anti-collision drone from Swiss manufacturer Flyability. It is suitable for inspections of industrial hall structures, tank and boiler interiors, collectors and pipelines. We also use it during the intervention of the IZS (Integrated Rescue System), for example, for surveys of the interior of buildings before the entry of members of fire brigades.

Flyability ELIOS 2

An excellent tool for inspecting the supporting structures of industrial halls, tank and boiler interiors, collectors and pipelines. It is also used in bridge inspections for detailed inspections of otherwise inaccessible areas.

Flyability Elios 3

Another anti-collision UAV from Swiss manufacturer Flyability. It is again used for indoor inspections in industrial halls, inside boilers, collectors and pipelines. But much more accurately than before, thanks to LiDAR technology. Of course, this machine will be incorporated into actions for the IZS (Integrated Rescue System).

DJI Matrice 30

As a special unit of the Fire Department, we go out to interventions such as fires, traffic accidents, searching for missing people, etc. We use the DJI Matrice 350 as standard. But the DJI Matrice 30 is a complete copy of it, just in a smaller version.

Carried equipment

DJI Zenmuse L1

LiDAR laser scanner with RGB camera. Using LiDAR technology (a method of remotely measuring the distance to the object being scanned using a laser beam), we create point clouds. We then use an RGB camera to add colour to the point cloud. This gives us a very accurate 3D model of reality. Our applications include monitoring traffic accidents, scanning burnt or crumbled objects. It is also planned to be deployed in other projects such as scanning important objects for the needs of the IZS (Integrated Rescue System), where we will create a basis for simulating and planning a crisis scenario.

DJI Zenmuse H20T

The most commonly used for the need of the IZS (Integrated Rescue System). Combination of a total of 4 different sensors. But there are also plans to integrate it into our inspection system. It has an optical ZOOM camera for detailed monitoring, a thermal camera for finding fire hotspots or searching for people, a laser rangefinder for GPS targeting of important points and counting their distance from the UAV, and a wide-angle camera for a general overview.

GL60 Spotlight

LED spotlight to assist the IZS (Integrated Rescue System). This is the most commonly used payload at events in the dark. It was created as a replacement for the DJI Z15 Spotlight we have used so far. It now has the ability to adjust its focal length during flight. This allows us to direct the intensity of the light much more precisely on the object of interest. It is fully compatible with the DJI Matrice 210 and DJI Matrice 300.
